Asbestos Information

Sherwood School District has eight facilities; Sherwood High School, Sherwood Middle School, The Ridges Campus (Laurel Ridge Middle & Edy Ridge Elementary schools), Archer Glen Elementary, Middleton Elementary and J Clyde Hopkins Elementary schools, Distict Office building and Operations (Cipole) building.

Three facilities (Sherwood High School, Sherwood Middle School and J Clyde Hopkins Elementary) were built during the time that asbestos containing materials (ACMs) were often used in construction. Asbestos containing materials found in these three facilities are inspected and maintained following the 
Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA).  SSD contracts with PBS Environmental to perform required inspections of the Asbestos-Containing Materials in Schools per regulations. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) are the authorities that regulate asbestos and the ACM's are regularly inspected and maintained in compliance with EPA and DEQ regulations.  Sherwood School District takes actions consistent with DEQ and EPA guidelines to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
