Scoliosis Screenings for 5th Grade Students:

Scoliosis Screenings will be provided for 5th grade students during the scheduled Vision Screenings (see above). Scoliosis is a lateral "curvature of the spine" (the spine curves to the right or the left).

The District Nurses will look at the student's posture to check that shoulders and hips are even with each other (symmetrical).  Students will also bend over so that the nurses can test to see if the spine is in a straight line.  The student will be fully clothed, and the screening is not painful and not invasive.  Parents will be notified if a curvature or variation in posture is detected and if a visit to the Pediatrician is suggested.

Please contact the District Nurses is you have any questions about the Scoliosis Screening.

Youth Heart Screenings for High School Freshmen (see note regarding other grades):

PlaySmart Heart screenings were conducted this October at Sherwood High School -- 104 students were screened.

We will be having PlaySmart screenings again this spring on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
Note:  for Freshmen or students in other grades (ages 12 - 18, or older than 18 if still in high school), free heart screening can be arranged as needed through Providence -- you do not need to wait until the scheduled screening date if you are concerned about your child
