Sherwood School District congratulates senior students Samantha Stewart and Hao Tan for being selected as Semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship competition.

Stewart and Tan were selected based on their outstanding scores on the PSAT exam. Approximately 16,000 students nationwide were selected and will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth about $35 million that will be offered next spring.

Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

Sherwood School District is very proud of these students and wishes them the best of luck in this scholarship competition.
