Families, staff and community members,

You may have already seen on the news that a school shooting occurred locally at Reynolds High School in Troutdale this morning.  We are all deeply saddened by this tragic event.  People often seek information about what they can do to support their children and to better understand the procedures in place to keep their children safe at school.  This is a normal and appropriate reaction in a situation such as this.

The District has worked diligently over the years on our safety protocols, including partnering with local law enforcement.  Our buildings are equipped with updated security features, our schools conduct regular drills and our staff is trained in lock-down procedures.  We have been in communication with each of our schools and the Sherwood Police Department, with whom we have a close partnership, and are being even more vigilant today about our school security.  School counselors are available to support students should they experience anxiety or stress.

We wish to remind parents that in the event of an emergency, the District would communicate with SSD parents using our automated phone system and  Parents can learn more about our safety and communication protocols on our District’s Emergency Preparedness webpage:

The well being of our children is my highest concern.  As always, we continue to do everything in our power to keep our students and staff out of harm’s way.

Our thoughts are with the students, staff and families of the Reynolds School District community.
