Sherwood School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Rahim Tufts as the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach for Sherwood High School.  Coach Tufts spent 11 years at Scappoose High School, including the last 5 years as head coach.  During his five years as head coach, Tufts was 91-44, his teams won three league titles, competed in the state tournament four times, and won the 4A state title in 2015.  Coach Tufts was selected as Cowapa League Coach of the Year three times, and was named Oregon 4A Coach of the Year in 2015.  Coach Tufts may have done his best coaching job this past year by leading his team to a state semi-final appearance after losing all five starters off the 2015 State Championship team.

Coach Tufts earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Pacific University.  He has spent the past 11 years coaching basketball and teaching Language Arts at Scappoose High School.  During his time at Scappoose, Mr. Tufts also served as activities director and as a department coordinator.  Coach Tufts will teach Language Arts at Sherwood High School.   Rahim Tufts takes over the boys basketball program from Tony Merrill, who lead the Bowmen for five seasons.
“I am extremely excited to build on the rich athletic traditions of Sherwood High School.  As an educator, coach, husband, and dad, I cannot think of a better place than Sherwood.  I am looking forward to building relationships with the players, parents, and community members of SHS and for a great run of basketball years in the Sherwood community,” said Tufts.

“We feel very fortunate to bring Rahim Tufts into our school and community.  He is an outstanding coach, teacher and leader who is capable of taking our basketball program to new levels,” said Ken Bell, Sherwood High School Principal.
