Principal Gary Bennett is promoted to chief academic officer while Ken Bell will assume the role of associate principal for Sherwood High School.

Sherwood’s new chief academic officer, Gary Bennett, brings a broad scope of leadership experiences to his new role.  Currently the principal of Sherwood Middle School, he has been a driving force in the District’s endeavors to move to proficiency-based teaching and learning. Through his leadership, Sherwood Middle School staff has set the pace for the entire district in regards to increased rigor, proficiency learning and differentiated instruction.  Sherwood School District Superintendent, Heather Cordie, states,  “Gary’s deep knowledge of instruction and his ability to mentor teachers and staff in this area help make him a perfect fit for this pivotal position.  With Gary as our CAO the district will continue to work towards the goal of all students meeting their individual growth targets.”

Gary, presently in his third year at Sherwood Middle School, is a strong instructional leader with a broad background in teaching and learning. Reflecting on his promotion Gary shared, “Although I am saddened to be leaving Sherwood Middle School, I have the opportunity to step into my dream job in a district whose philosophy matches my own, where I have built strong relationships, and in whose leadership I have faith and confidence.  I am obviously pleased and very honored to have been selected.”  Prior to joining the Sherwood School District as a principal in July 2009, Gary was a TOSA (teacher on special assignment) for instructional improvement in the Tigard-Tualatin School District.

Sherwood School District is pleased to welcome Ken Bell into an administrative position. After seventeen years at Sunset High School, most currently in the job of StEPP coordinator,   Ken Bell has accepted the position of associate principal at Sherwood High School.  Ken will join Principal Carlos Sequeira and Associate Principal Brian Bailey as a part of the administrative team at the high school.  Ken’s extensive knowledge of and sensitivity to high school students will be an asset to the high school and he is looking forward to July 1, his first official day in the district.  Ken says, “I am so excited to be joining a district with an outstanding reputation and record of success, a community that values and supports education, as well as a staff and student body who love and are very proud of their school.”
