Sherwood School District is excited to announce the selection of Phil Johanson as the District’s new Chief Financial Officer. The position provides leadership and technical assistance for the District in the areas of finance, budgeting, construction management, contract negotiations and the management of the business department.  Mr. Johanson will begin working on October 24, 2013 and takes over for Wayne Lowry, who left the District in June to become the Finance Director for Deschutes County.

Mr. Johanson has served as the Financial Services Manager at Business Oregon’s Infrastructure Finance Authority since 2009 and also spent 15 years leading and supporting Mt. Hood Community College’s Finance Office.  He has a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from Portland State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

When asked what interested him about this position, Johanson replied, “I was impressed with the care and concern for the District’s students expressed by the Board, Superintendent, administration and staff.”

The District spent four months recruiting and conducting interviews with potential candidates.  “In Jim Collins’ book, Good to Great, significant ink is devoted to the importance of finding exactly the right fit when hiring – which is why my team and I were determined to recruit for as long as it took,” said Dr. Heather Cordie, Superintendent of Schools.  “We are so fortunate to have found Mr. Johanson, who rose to the top of our pool due to his strong experience and his obvious passion for student achievement and education.”

With the hire of a permanent Chief Financial Officer, the district is preparing to further their analysis of the impact of new revenue as a result of the most recent special legislative session, Gain Share allocation and increasing student enrollment.
