Sherwood School District is pleased to announce the selection of the new Middleton Elementary principal, Jeremiah Patterson. Patterson, who begins his new post on July 1, will replace Marianne Funderhide, who was named principal of Sherwood Middle School.
Mr. Patterson comes to Sherwood from the Riverdale School District, where he has been the principal of the Riverdale Grade School since 2008. Prior to Riverdale, he served as an elementary assistant principal and literacy coordinator and has taught grades one through four. Patterson is currently pursuing an EdD in Educational Leadership at Portland State University and Lewis and Clark College and expects to graduate this summer.
Patterson notes that he is “thrilled to be joining the Middleton staff.” With the recent turnover in the principal role at Middleton in mind, Patterson said, “I’m looking forward to learning with, and from, this team for a long time to come.”
The District received 38 applications for the vacancy at Middleton, and five were interviewed by a team of administrators, staff, parents and a board member; two, strong finalists were then recommended to Superintendent Heather Cordie. After interviewing both on Tuesday, Cordie selected Patterson. “Jeremiah’s experience, coupled with his strong desire to be a part of Sherwood Schools, will make him a wonderful addition to the Middleton community and to our district,” said Cordie. “We are thrilled to have him as the newest member of our administrative team.”
The District will host opportunities for staff and families to meet and visit with Mr. Patterson in July and August.
