The Sherwood School District is excited to announce that Chrissy Lawrence, Instructional Coach, has been announced as one of three local recipients for the 2016 Celebrate Literacy Award from the Portland Reading Council and the International Literacy Association.

Ms. Lawrence has worked for the Sherwood School District since 2009, when she was hired as an Instructional Coach at Edy Ridge Elementary. In December 2013, Lawrence moved to the District Office, where she served as the district-wide Talented and Gifted (TAG) Coordinator. This year, Ms. Lawrence returned to the elementary level as an Instructional Coach at Hopkins Elementary. She has also served as the Summer Institute Coordinator for the District since 2014.

Ms. Lawrence is currently collaborating on the writing of a framework to guide literacy instruction at the elementary level, and also teaches classes at Concordia University.

Recipients of the Celebrate Literacy Award were selected based on their demonstration of dedication to promoting literacy, lifelong love of reading which is instilled in others, and significant contributions to literacy at the local level. Ms. Lawrence and her fellow honorees will be recognized at an awards event on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
