Important Update on School Closure

posted Apr 8, 2020, 3:08 PM by Christine Andregg

This afternoon, Governor Kate Brown announced the closure of schools -- and the cancellation of in-person classes -- for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.  This means that our students will not return to the classrooms this spring. While it is likely that we all feel stunned, disappointed, and overwhelmed by this decision, please know that the District remains committed to the implementation of Distance Learning, attending to the health, safety, and wellness needs of our students and staff, and supporting our high school seniors as they work to graduate and complete their K-12 education.

Our team will be closely reviewing the guidance of the Oregon Department of Education related to pathways for our high school seniors over the coming days, and will share those details with our senior students and their families soon.  Additionally, we will provide ongoing updates on our Distance Learning plan, ensuring that all students, families, and staff in our district have the information they need to be successful in the weeks ahead.

Since the first impacts of COVID-19 were seen in our district, our administrators, teachers, and support staff have worked tirelessly (and continue to do so!) to launch meaningful access to learning across the District next week -- with our students as our number one priority at all times.  We are grateful to these staff for their work, and grateful to all of our families and community members who have expressed their support, concern, and patience for our staff. As we all process today’s announcement, and what it means for each of us personally, please take care of yourselves and each other during this very challenging time.
