Fall 2020 Planning Surveys - July 16, 2020

posted Jul 16, 2020, 2:14 PM by Christine Andregg

The Sherwood School District -- and our schools -- have been working diligently to develop plans for opening schools in the fall.  All school levels are working to develop plans for two main scenarios: 1) In-Person Learning/Hybrid, working within the Oregon Department of Education’s (ODE) “Ready Schools, Safe Learners” guidance, and 2) Comprehensive Distance Learning for those families who choose that option.

Option 1 - “In-Person Learning/Hybrid”

  • In-person/in-building learning for all students, in combination with components of distance learning (Hybrid model)

  • Class sizes limited per ODE guidelines (35 square feet per person)

  • Physical distancing and other health measures recommended by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) in place

Option 2 - “Comprehensive Distance Learning”

  • Comprehensive Distance Learning coordinated and taught by district teachers

  • This model will be a substantial improvement from our model this spring and will incorporate learning from surveys from families, students, and staff, as well as new Comprehensive Distance Learning guidance from ODE

  • The instructional technology team will partner with buildings and teachers to design and deliver an engaging and interactive comprehensive distance learning program that aligns with the curriculum that is taught in the in-person/in-building classroom

For planning purposes, we would like your feedback on which option you will most likely choose for your student. Please fill out this survey for each student in your home.

Elementary Survey
(Middle/High School Resource: "Design Thinking for Educators")

This is the third in a series of surveys sent by the District helping us further develop our plans.  Your input is instrumental in the development of these options.  As our plans continue to evolve, we will be communicating more details of the plans to families during the week of July 27th and seek additional feedback from you at that time.  Based on that feedback, we will further develop our plans, and present them to our Board of Directors on August 12 for their feedback and questions (time and location to be determined).

ODE, OHA, and other state leaders continue to monitor the conditions of COVID-19, and will provide ongoing updates to guidance in the weeks and months ahead. As always, we will continue to follow the guidance from the state level, keeping the safety of our students and staff at the forefront of our decision-making.

Thank you for partnering with us to create the best possible learning experiences for our students in the upcoming school year.
